Confused about PONY League versus Junior League?

Confused about the differences between PONY League and Little League's Juniors program?  Many players and parents are.  Both are programs for players of league age 13-14.  PONY, however, offers many advantages which we feel makes it a much stronger program for developing young players and helping them make the transition to high school baseball.

for an in-depth description of the differences between the two programs.

Meanwhile, for a great perspective, see below for what LNPL parent/coach and former Angels great,
Mike Witt, recently had to say about the PONY program:

"I believe that PONY baseball is a much better transition to high school baseball than playing in the Juniors division of Little League. The speed of the game is more realistic in PONY ball, i.e., pitching, running, hitting, and fielding.  All happen at a more rapid pace on a smaller field thus making the players react and perform at a quicker rate.  If players can perform and react at a quicker rate in games and practices over the course of  3 to 4 months, they will become better players. When they transition to high school ball, the distances will be negligible, but the PONY player will have better reaction times than players from the Juniors division.

I have one more son coming up through Little League and he will definitely be playing PONY  when he is a 13 year old.

Sincerely,

Mike Witt

About Our League
This site's purpose is to provide information about league schedules, events, and general information of importance for participating in one of our nation's leading youth baseball programs - PONY League. Protect Our Nation's Youth (PONY) League consists of league ages 13 & 14 year olds.

Our PONY League serves the following communities: Laguna Niguel Laguna Beach Laguna Hills Aliso Viejo Mission Viego PONY League plays seven innings, uses 80' bases and 54' mounds, does not increase these lengths at mid-season, uses official baseball rules, and contracts umpires. PONY also provides for a Spring all-star tournament 13 year old team and a 14 year old team.

While we offer a competitive environment to bring out the best in our young athletes, team play and positive sportsmanship take priority. All of our players are drafted in rotation to avoid "stacked" teams so we can create a more competitive and balanced league.

PONY's fields are located at LaPaz Sports Park and Chapparosa Park. The majority of our games are held at LaPaz, where we have dedicated use of this exceptionally great field during Spring. Our teams play twice per week. With a 24 game schedule this season plus the year-end tournament, our players received significant game exposure required to fully develop from facing peer pitching.

Recognizing the need for families to make plans and actually keep to them, we stay true to our schedules as posted in September and February, except when impacted by weather.
